  • Javier Da Silva Rojas, 25, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with an additional two years supervised release for murdering Valerie Reyes, 24

  • Rojas, who is an illegal immigrant living in Queens, New York, murdered his ex in 2019 by knocking her out and then shoving her body into a suitcase and leaving her on the roadside

  • She died of homicidal asphyxiation, a coroner found

  • He told Reyes's family that he was 'repulsed' by his action and apologized in a White Plains federal court on Thursday

#1  Explain to me again why the death penalty is cruel and unusual. I think execution needs to be compared to the crime - if it's less cruel, it's appropriate.
