| Money transference should only be carried out in local currency: Afghan central bank |

Tightening the screws. [KhaamaPress] The central bank of Afghanistan-De Afghanistan Bank- in a new directive said that those who transfer money to Afghanistan should be conducted in local currency-Afghani- only.The bank sources have told Rooters that based on the directive, all the private banks are prohibited to receive money by any other currency including dollars. It is worth mentioning that, those who have transferred dollars prior to the directive can receive dollars. Rooters citing the sources said that the decision has been taken so that the central bank can save enough amount of US dollars which has been less currently. Based on the new directive, if people transfer money in any other currency, the receiver will merely be given the local currency in Afghanistan. In the meantime, Western Union has reportedly stopped its operation in Afghanistan but Money Gram is still operational. Banking services in Afghanistan has become one of the toughest tasks in Afghanistan as people are limited to $200 per week only. Hundreds of people are still being seen queuing at the gates of banks so that they withdraw money. |
