Photographer who captured devastating images of 9/11 calls on Americans to 'bring back togetherness' like they did that day as he retraces his steps on the 20th anniversary of the atrocity

Phil Penman took some of the most harrowing photos of the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks in NYC

He returned to Ground Zero last month to photograph the very same streets 20 years on from the attacks

Photos shared exclusively with DailyMail.com show how the city has recovered from that horrific day

Penman recalled how the immense tragedy of the day brought New York and the US together

'Every photo from that day shows someone helping someone else... we see how great tragedy brought a great coming together of people,' he said

He fears this unity has been lost and hopes the 20th anniversary will help 'bring back the togetherness of 9/11'

#3 In his remarks today, GWBush (piss be upon him) looked to compare 9/11 to Jan 6. If that was his intent, there can be no coming together and they know it. They want what comes next.

#2 great tragedy brought a great coming together of people Indeed it did. It also disclosed (for a very short interval) other people foreign and domestic who rejoiced at the tragedy and posted this on the internet. That got scrubbed pretty thoroughly within a few weeks. But I remember...
