White House blames the beef, pork and poultry industry for 50% of grocery stores price rises and announces crackdown on meatpacking 'pandemic profiteering'
2021-09-09
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The Biden administration plans to take a tougher stance toward meatpacking companies it says are causing sticker shock at grocery stores

  • National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack appeared at Wednesday's press briefing

  • About half of the overall increase in grocery prices are coming from significant hikes in the cost of beef, pork and poulty, Deese said

  • Four companies control much of the U.S. meat processing market, and White House officials blamed those companies for rising food prices

  • He and Vilsack outlined some of the steps the adminitration is taking to mitigate what Deese called 'pandemic profiteering' from the top companies
Nothing about regulatory strangulation reimposed, feed prices, seed prices, trucking costs, gas prices...

#18  It seems to me that one answer for China is to buy feral free range pork as a delicacy.

That was true for the past two decades or so, but their wealth growth may soon become shrinkage as various domestic bubbles pop.

#16  For China to get USA grown grains and meats, it must be shipped. To bad the dock workers union does not stop the shipments.

#12  Indeed, Skid. I have all the pork I could want. But I do have to process it myself. And that is nasty this time of year. Thankfully even a small freezer filled in the winter will last all year. Always looking for good ground pork recipes - lets me use more of those larger feral swine.

#11  I'm noticing that good quality foods has gone way, way up, but cheap crap continues to be cheap.

In other news, I bet we could prevent more COVID deaths by closing McDonald's than we have by closing gyms.

Why not start with WHO is owned by and EXPORTING to China/Asia large amounts of Meat?

Or what about the 1.5 Billion lbs of U.S. Chicken Meat exported.

NOTE:
Tyson Foods is already 25% owned by Ping Shan Cobb-Vantress Ltd. of China.

Smithfield Foods, Inc., the top USA Pork producer and food-processing company is a solely owned subsidiary of WH Group of China.

As one Leading food industry expert said:

"Food is poised to become the oil of the 21st century, with scarcity and demand creating a situation ripe for wars, riots and uprisings."

"The Chinese already consume half of the world’s pork, and they are growing wealthier and hungrier for meat every year."

So China, with 1.4+ Billion mouths to feed and crop land declining in China with its population growth.... It should get interesting to say the least over the next 20 or so years.

BTW: Was at SAMS Club yesterday.

#4  Fake meat coming to a theater near you .. stuff is made from soy and a soy burger can contain around 18,000 times as much Estrogen than actual meat. Or some studies report...other articles refuting this...wonder why Bill Gates is buying up all the farm land?
