  • Army combat veteran Cory Mills coordinated a mission to get the family out of Afghanistan

  • Mariam and her kids had to travel on a route overland to the border of a neighboring country, which they reached safely on Monday

  • The State Department now appears to be taking credit for the operation, claiming they helped 'facilitate' it

  • But Mills says the Department 'did nothing' and repeatedly ignored Mariam's pleas for help before he stepped in

  • Meanwhile, more than 1,000 other Americans and Afghan allies were waiting to leave Afghanistan on Sunday as negotiations with the Taliban broke down
