The US reportedly used a secret CIA compound to rescue Americans, along with members of elite Afghan special forces, amid the chaos in and around the Kabul airport.

The compound, known as the Eagle Base and located less than three miles north of the Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai

International Airport in Kabul, was used to covertly get hundreds of US nationals and at least 1,000 Afghan commandos and their families out of the country, Politico reported, citing flight documents and three highly placed sources.

The evacuees were instructed to head out to the base in order to avoid security risks and the general chaos outside the airport, which was flooded by locals after the Afghan capital was seized by the Taliban

on August 15. The diplomats communicated directly with US nationals, including when the embassy was urging Americans to stay away from the airport in the light of growing terrorist threats.

Some people were flown from the base by helicopters to the Kabul airport and later airlifted to Germany, Politico said. A CIA spokesperson declined to comment on the operation of the website.

Overall, more than 124,000 people were flown out of Kabul during the last two weeks of August, according to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, US Army General Mark Milley.

#19   And not another word about all the other "secret" CIA hidey-holes in Afghanistan!

Thank goodness, Bubba Lover of the Faeries8843. Especially now, when our people are roaming the landscape, too much information in the open makes me very, very nervous. I don’t doubt that not everyone perusing these pages is a friendly.

#15  Not sure I buy this as a "former CIA compound." The general location they refer to had a NDS/MOI compound as well as another area referred to as the DEA compound. Likely the reporter is confused. Afghan SF and elite LE would have gathered at these areas for transfer...all were vetted and extremely effective - carried the fight for years.

Took 24 units of blood run through him which splashed out of the back of the Chinook on arrival. They found and stopped the source of internal bleeding in the OR. 2 days later he was flirting with the nurses. Rambo with Afghan accent...

#9  The story told about in the Vanity Fair article -- about Blinken's refusal to continue elevating a brilliant, extraordinarily successful contingency/crisis response team -- is appalling. Blinken and his boss are criminally incompetent.

Blame for the worst screwup in our lifetimes falls squarely on their shoulders. The root cause of the disaster was Team Biden's stubborn and inexplicable hostility to the CCR team.

Why? No doubt, because it was a Trump admin success story. CCR's elevation was championed by Mike Oimpeo, Trump's Secretary of State.

IOW, Biden

a) politicized the timing of the Afghan withdrawal so he could (so he thought) reap the political benefits of a self-congratulatory, 9/11 anniversary speech, and

b) through his deputy at State, degraded an extraordinarily capable, proven successful contingency and crusts response group that was completely prepared and resourced and ready to ensure a smooth and successful evacuation of all our civilians and the special immigrant visa Afghans as well.

So we've just witnessed the degradation of yet another major American institution by the Woke wrecking crew.

F--- these bastards.
This is beyond gross incompetence. This is treason.

#1  Supports the PJ Media State Depart Turf Wars article in today's Burg.

In addition to the internal DoS chaos, there appears there is or was also a rift between DoS, the Army, and the Klingons. Not sure where the White House falls in all of this, but I suspect they were firmly in the DoS camp, continuing to push Biden's 9/11 anniversary media event.

The intel people and some coalition partners saw the fall of AFG coming and took appropriate Non-Combatant Evacuation (NEO) action from Eagle Base and elsewhere. Perhaps the lessons of Benghazi were clearly in focus.

The finger pointing may soon intensify. Books to be published detailing this one.
