  • The Ford van was reportedly speeding when it crashed into a utility pole while coming off the Highway 281 in Encino on Wednesday afternoon

  • Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Nathan Brandley confirmed most of the passengers were undocumented immigrants

  • Brooks County Sheriff Urbino “Benny” Martinez confirmed that the driver died on the scene but that the body has not been identified

  • DPS is leading the investigation with assistance from the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office
