Cellphone snapshot of grizzly has Yellowstone tourist facing federal charges

[ABC] An Illinois woman is facing federal charges for allegedly disturbing wildlife in Yellowstone National Park after a video surfaced of her attempting to get an up-close cellphone photo of a momma grizzly bear and her three cubs.

Bob Murray, the U.S. attorney for the district of Wyoming, announced on Monday that charges have been filed against 25-year-old Samantha R. Dehring of Carol Stream, Illinois.

Dehring is ordered to appear before a magistrate judge in Mammoth Hot Spring, Wyoming, on Aug. 26 to answer to charges of willfully remaining, approaching and photographing wildlife within 100 yards. She is also charged with one count of feeding, touching, teasing, frightening or intentionally disturbing wildlife.

Missed it..But I have taken a number photos in Cades Cove of such things. Even got one of the wife with blk bear about 20 yards behind her.

If my memory is right.. I remember a woman was killed by Black Bear mama near the ranger welcome center some years ago.

While I understand the 100% stupidity of the Self-Picture with a wild Griz and yes she have had DARWIN teaching moment for it.

But.
If she lives in Illinois then transfer the case to that Illinois district, since she wasn't arrested in Yellowstone district.

Or have that U.S. attorney / Marshall's office in Wyoming pay for her return ROUND TRIP Airfare and her stay in 3/5 star Hotel room, NOT a travel inn room for the duration of the court hearing and trial.

NOTE: The quoted 100 Yard rule is pure BS and suspect the US Attorney wants some MEDIA exposure maybe for Career building?

BTW:
Hell here in Cherokee Nation Park NC/TN.
There are ELK, black bears, wolves and deer walking within a few FEET of tourists, not Yards.

I'll bet it is the same in Yellowstone.
Where Bears have learned how to pose and even open car doors to beg for handouts.

Momma & cubs, this is impressively stupid. In fact, it is so stupid I wouldn't bother to prosecute her because she will eventually wander into traffic, fall off a cliff, or be literally eaten by bears.
