[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • Activists in Chicago are demand the CPD end its contract with ShotSpotter, an AI-powered hidden-microphone system used to detect gunshots

  • Reports have shown that its sensors are disproportionately placed in minority communities

  • The technology immediately dispatches police to the alleged location of a gunshot, which led to the March 29th shooting of 13-year old Adam Toledo

  • In a number of cases, prosecutors have withdrawn its findings due to inaccuracy claims where it appears police have had the information altered

  • In May, the MacArthur Justice Center found that 86 percent of the alerts led to no evidence a crime at all

#4  Reports have shown that its sensors are disproportionately placed in minority communities

If you load the city of Chicago into your Geographic Information System (GIS) and draw polygons around the minority neighborhoods, you would find most of the Shot Spotter sites within those polygons. So yeah, it's totally racist.

If you load the city of Chicago into your GIS and drew polygons around neighborhoods with an above-average number of shootings, you would find most of the Shot Spotter sites within those polygons. That's just practical. No need for a Shot Spotter if there are no shots, right?

Is there a German word that means "laughs hysterically upon seeing the word 'disproportional'"?

#2  Well, the kid did have a pistol in his hand. He dropped it right before he was shot by the officer.
