Tents transformed into cement-block houses in camp in Duhok
2021-07-16
[NPASYRIA] Shariya Camp, the first camp that IDPs of Sinjar in Duhok governorate in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reside in, has received approval to transfer tents to cement-block houses.

The approval came after a fire that broke out on June 4th in the camp, burning more than 300 tents.

"180 houses are almost ready to be delivered to those affected by the burning," Deputy Director of Barzani Charity Foundation Muhammad Hawar told North Press.

Hawar stressed the vigorous efforts to issue special laws regarding all camps "due to the rapid outbreak of fire in the tents, we are trying to issue a decision to allow the IDPs to replace their tents with houses made of cement blocks or soil. "

There are 15 camps for Sinjari IDPs in Duhok governorate, and Shariya camp alone is home to more than 20,000 IDPs.
