'We need help': Haiti's interim leader requests US troops

[AlAhram] Mathias Pierre, Haiti's elections minister, defended the government's request military assistance, saying in an interview Saturday with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the local police force is weak and lacks resources

Haiti's interim government has asked the U.S. and U.N. to deploy troops to protect key infrastructure as it tries to stabilize the country and prepare for elections in the aftermath of President Jovenel Moise's liquidation.

The stunning request for U.S. military support recalled the tumult following Haiti's last presidential liquidation, in 1915, when an angry mob dragged President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam out of the French Embassy and beat him to death. In response, President Woodrow Wilson sent the Marines into Haiti, justifying the American military occupation _ which lasted nearly two decades _ as a way to avert anarchy.

#14  Perhaps the story is a bit more... complicated:
According to Colombian paper the president had been dead an hour before commandos showed up.

#8  Columbia's mercs don't come from the narco gangs. They come from the side fighting the narco gangs. Gang members don't get to travel with the approval of their host government.

#6  One corrupt regime asking another corrupt regime* for help. The grifters of the Clinton Foundation didn't do much for you the last time. Have you considered asking the French?

* Engelbert Dollfuss to the courtesy phone. I think I've seen this movie before.

#4  Haitian Opposition Leader Hired American Lobbyist Two Days Before Assassination of Haiti’s President

According to Pierre Reginald Boulos, he hired the lobbyist in order for the Biden administration to support an interim government in Haiti.

The timing of Pierre’s hiring of the lobbyist is raising some red flags, considering he hired the lobbyist only two days before the President’s death.

After all, interim governments are usually established after a leader suddenly dies or a revolution occurs. So, it almost appears as if Haitian opposition leader Pierre Reginald Boulos knew something was about to happen.

[Just The News] White House: FBI, Homeland Security officials to Haiti 'as soon as possible,' after assassination - Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated overnight Wednesday.

The U.S. will send FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials to Haiti to help the struggling county after President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated earlier in the week, the White House said Friday.

"In response to the Haitian government's request for security and investigative assistance, we will be sending senior FBI and DHS officials to Port-au-Prince as soon as possible to assess the situation and how we may be able to assist," said White House press secretary Jen Psaki, according to Fox News.

Psaki did not say how many officials will travel to the country or when they will leave.

The U.S. is also sending a shipment of coronavirus vaccines and $5 million to the Haitian National Police to combat gang violence. Haitians will be given a Temporary Protected Status for 18 months to allow individuals to flee the country.

Haitian officials have already apprehended six men in connection to the assassination, two of whom are Haitian-Americans.

#2  Analystssay whoever plotted the brazen attack likely had ties to a criminal underworld that has flourished amid corruption and drug trafficking.

Well then, nothing much to be gained by coming here. Try Chile or Argentina.
