City of Joliet finally investigates its police department one year after death of black man, 37, who had his nose pinched shut by cops for nearly two minutes while baton was shoved in his mouth
2021-05-28
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • City of Joliet, Illinois, hired private attorney to conduct independent review of police department's handling of Eric Lurry's case

  • Lurry, 37, married father-of-three, died following a drug-related arrest in January 2020
Over a year ago, and does not appear to have made it into the Rantburg archives.
  • Dashcam video released in July showed Sgt Doug May pinching Lurry's nose shut for 1 minute, 38 seconds, slapping him and calling him a 'b****'

  • Another officer was seen inserting a metal baton into Lurry's mouth

  • Police whistleblower Sgt Javier Esqueda, who released the video, was later stripped of his badge and criminally charged

  • May was handed a seven-day suspension in January 2021 for his conduct during Lurry's arrest

  • Lurry's widow filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against May and other officers

  • The Will County Coroner later determined that Lurry died of an 'accidental overdose' after swallowing fatal quantities of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine, and said that arresting police officers were not responsible for his death
Ah. That explains why the activists are making a fuss now.

#2  Jake and Elwood were from there.

There was a State prison in Joliet county (where Jake was incarcerated) but it closed in 2002. It is a museum now.

Illinois....
Liberal Democrat run State with bad COPS?
That can't be. The Socialist-Democrats surely cleaned its own house, before demanding and defunding others.
