#3 In addition to what Spike has shared: Ansar basically means 'supporters' but has changed with time to mean 'defenders', implying defenders of islam. The militant group that followed Mohammed and his family around as guards when they were being hunted in the desert were called Ansari. Today it means 'militant defenders' often trained and dedicated units of young men. So when you encounter anything called an Ansar, even if it's distributing coats in winter, you know damn well that another bunch of them are killing you elsewhere. Harkat-ul-Ansar was a Pakistani outfit recruiting in Kashmir in the early 90s, led by Rahman Khalil. They were trained and funded by an Algerian-Bosnian Mokhtari and Pakistani militants. We wiped out the footsoldiers by '94, and jailed some but the leadership that escaped settled in the UK. Their children later invested in UK politics and run several islamic associations aided by the Pakistain ISI. Maulana Masood Azhar, most wanted bastitch no gooder living it up in Pak, is also originally Harkat-ul-Ansar. |

#2 The terrorist Ansar groups are legion. They began with Bin Laden's first move to unite the Afghan-Arab mujahideen and was initiated in Afghanistan in February 1988. There Bin Laden, Zawahiri of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Rahman Khalil of ANSAR Pakistan, the Islamist Bangladeshi Abdul Salem Muhammad, and Abu Yassir Ahmed Taha, representing Arab North Africa, coordinated their efforts to continue the jihad through an "Islamic Struggle Front." Etc., etc., etc. |
