The mayor of the nation’s third-largest city issued the denial after a night of rumors spread on Twitter and elsewhere.
"Good morning from my mansion in Sauganash," Lightfoot posted in reference to widespread rumors last summer that she bought a multimillion dollar mansion in the posh Northside neighborhood.
"Seriously, though — our city doesn’t have any time for homophobic, racist and misogynistic rumors, today or any day," Lightfoot continued.
"It’s shocking and disappointing to see some media members and verified Twitter handles are peddling this trash as truth."
Unconfirmed rumors of Lightfoot’s supposedly impending resignation circulated on Twitter on Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
Chicago has been on edge for weeks after a city cop shot and killed 13-year-old Adam Toledo last month.
Authorities had previously described the shooting as an "armed confrontation," but disturbing bodycam footage released on Thursday showed Toledo unarmed with his hands up the moment he was shot.
Despite the rumors, the field of honor clearly remains an option.
