China may send peacekeeping force to Afghanistan after US troops leave, observers say | |||

[South China Morning Post] Beijing may consider
US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he would withdraw all remaining US troops — about 2,500 — from Afghanistan by September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack in New York. The withdrawal may pose a threat to Afghanistan’s security and stability, which could spill over into Xinjiang and disrupt China’s counterterrorism efforts. In 2018, China trained Afghan troops and helped set up a mountain brigade. The training took place in China and the aim of the brigade was to counter possible attacks by al-Qaeda and Islamic State.
"The situation in Afghanistan might go further into chaos in the future. Cross-border crime, drug trafficking and smuggling of firearms may proliferate," he said.

#19 Genghis Khan didn't have ROE Did so - kill everything that doesn't surrender unconditionally. I'm sure PLA's ROE is quite different. |

#12 If they follow the historical model for depressing violence from that area , you'll see village here and a village there disappear overnight . No women or children will be spared . |

#8 It's not like the usual Muslim world 'outrage' over the final solution for the Uyghurs will stop another cleansing. What's that? No discernible whining about the Central Asians? Seems only the Trump administration was concerned and no one else. |

#7 The Chinese troops won't worry about "hearts and minds" or collateral damage. The latter they might consider a feature, not a bug. |

#6 Probably no restrictive ROE's either. |

#5 Depends on who "we" is. I believe the troops could do just fine, but there's no political will in Washington to "win," whatever that might look like. |

#4 Let them waste their blood and treasure there. 20 years and we can't win. |

#3 Nah, the name is honored by the CCP and the parties on Taiwan. They draw their 'legitimacy' originating from the 'founder' of modern China. Its sort of like democrats who keep trying to appropriate Lincoln as one of theirs. |

#2 said Sun Qi "Sun"? As in Yat-Sen? Seems a rather risky name for a loyal CCP cadre. Spy?. |

#1 Good. Either they'll show the world how this shit is done, or end up sending a third of their little emperors to their deaths. Good either way. |
