Brooklyn Center mayor: Police don't necessarily need guns for making traffic stops |
2021-04-15 |
[BIZPACREVIEW] The mayor of Brooklyn Center, Minn., said Tuesday he believes coppers do not need to be armed for every traffic stop following the shooting death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. "I don’t believe that officers necessarily, uh, have weapons, uh, you know, uh...every time they’re making a traffic stop or engaged in situations that don’t necessarily call for weapons," Mayor Mike Elliot told news hounds during a presser. "We know that there are other, many other jurisdictions, even around the world where that is not necessarily the case, that is not needed," he added. #9 And he WAS armed. Rambler - and now he would be more fearful of actually employing his weapon than being killed making the stop, because it would have devastating effects on far more than just himself. No way I would be a LEO today. (We won't discuss vigilantism...) |

#5 If the cops are unarmed, of course they will not stop any motorist. One more huge leap down the path of ending rule of law in this country |

#4 This will eventually lead to cops being able to hack cars and turn them off, possibly lock the doors. |

#3 I knew a guy who was a police officer in New York state about 30-35 years ago. He had to quit. He couldn't take the pressure of knowing that every time he stopped someone he could get shot. And he WAS armed. Imagine how much more pressure there would be if he didn't have a weapon. |

#2 2019 Police Study ranked Traffic stops at over 1/3rd of all deaths. The study found Police Officers who died after initiating contact with suspects were most likely to be killed during traffic stops. Ambushing became the 2nd most likely in 2019-2020. With Domestic calls, Process and Warrant serving pretty closely tied. HOWEVER, I did not see Political Armed Bodyguards ANY where on the list. Maybe this Mayor seeking some kiss up camera time should start by disarming his bodyguards? |

#1 How many cops are shot or attacked during traffic stops every year? I think it's a lot. |
