Georgia's new election law hit with federal lawsuit
2021-03-29
[Right Scoop] Georgia’s new election law that was signed yesterday by Governor Kemp was just hit with a federal lawsuit to stop the law:
THE HILL — Voting rights groups on Thursday night filed a lawsuit just hours after Georgia enacted a Republican-crafted law that gives state lawmakers more power over elections and imposes a raft of new voting restrictions.

The 35-page complaint filed in federal court in Atlanta alleges that minority voters will be hit especially hard by the new legislation, which plaintiffs say illegally suppresses voters’ rights in violation of constitutional protections and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

According to the lawsuit, the new restrictions are "clearly intended to and will have the effect of making it harder for lawful Georgia voters to participate in the State’s elections," adding that it will impose "unjustifiable burdens" that disproportionately impact people of color, as well as young, poor and disabled voters.
"...disproportionately impact people of color..." This is the same garbage Democrats always spew about any law designed to protect the integrity of our election process. They say it so often it almost sounds racist. It’s as if they are saying that ’people of color’ are less capable of doing things that white people can do, like getting an ID and bringing it when they vote, or applying on time for an absentee ballot.

I read Fred T’s post yesterday on the new law and I don’t have a single issue with anything highlighted there. And after what happened last year, we need much more restrictive laws to keep Democrats from stealing our election.

So kudos to Georgia, governor and all, for making this law and trying to fix their election process. I’m sure it will be in the courts for a long time, but hopefully Georgia can win this before we have more elections next year, or at the very least in 2024.

#10  You expect Democrats to fight this type of law because, if they can't cheat, they can't win.

#9  Why are black people considered so incompetent that they can't produce an ID before voting?

Do we allow anyone to buy beer without a state-issued photo ID? Shouldn't voting be at least as difficult as buying a six-pack?

#8  Was joking (sort of) the other day that Dominion is suing Fox because Fox announced the final vote count 5 hours early.

Like that chinese spacewalk broadcast...when the rocket was still on the ground.

#6  NN2N1, could the Libertarian candidate dedicate their votes to another candidate?

I assume not as that would truly have made third parties more powerful as king makers but you never know.

#5  Completely bogus. No advanced nation tolerated the absentee ballot scam that Democrats are trying to pull. The only European countries that even allow absentee ballots for their domestically resident citizens all require the voter to show proof of citizenship.

Here's a report on absentee balloting in the advanced nations. Key quotes:

Among the 27 countries in the European Union
- 67% ban mail-in absentee voting unless living abroad, and 26% require a photo-ID to obtain a mail-in absentee ballot
- 22% ban the practice even for those who live abroad.

As for the 16 other European countries, those are even more restrictive. Every single one bans mail-in voting for those living in the country or require a photo ID to obtain a mail-in ballot. Sixty-three percent don't allow mail-in ballots even for citizens living outside of the country.

Are all of these countries, socialist and non-socialist alike, Western and Eastern European, developed and undeveloped, acting "without evidence?"

#3  The same people who always promote Scandinavian socialism don't want Scandinavian voter ID rules nor what the rest of the civilized world wants.

I support the New Voter Law down here in Middle Eastern Ga. In part because of too many Virtual Voters and how narrow the elections have "SUDDENLY" become.

Google Demographics for GA. 2020 18 years and over and you get around 6,017,219 persons of Voting age. Yes that includes Felons and mentally ill and nursing home coma persons.

Now go to GA SOS VOTER DATA shows :
7,233,601 Active voters
405,297 Inactive voters
=======================
7,638,898 TOTAL REGISTERED?
6,017,219 Population of 18 and over
=======================
1,216,382 too many voters
In short come likely voter registration and purging issues.

Now Use
GA SOS VOTE TOTAL

The finally tally Last updated Friday, November 20, 2020, 8:37:43 PM(4 months ago) according to the GA SOS
Biden won 49.51%
Trump 49.25%
A difference of 0.251% of 1%
or 12,670 votes

Note: The Libertarian collected 62,138+ votes.
4x the difference needed to put trump over the top.

So the question is could there be a miscounting and/or improperly cast votes out of 12,670 votes of 4,998,482 counted. YES.
