The Feds say it was a 'meteor flash'. No other exploding meteors - and there have been some big ones since - have recreated that effect, but trust the Feds.

#3 ...And don't forget that for some years now, Taiwan has been considered a possible 'breakout' nuclear power - no assembled warheads, but a piece here, and a piece there, and in a month or so you got one. Or more.
