| ISIS attacks Sinijar district; one dies |

| [NRT] SULAIMANI — Iraq's Joint Operations Command said on Sunday (March 14) that Islamic State (ISIS) militants entered Sinjar district from Syria and attacked the security forces overnight. The command said in a statement that the attack lasted for approximately half an hour. One soldier belonging to the Third Regiment of the Iraqi Army’s Sixth Brigade was killed while pursuing the militants, according to Iraq’s Security Media Cell. On Sunday, ISIS militants raided a village in Saladin’s Abu Dor area and killed eight people, including six members of the same family. In December 2017, the Iraqi Security Forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent threat in some parts of the country. |
