| #15 ...You know how I know the Congresscritters writing that letter have no idea what they're talking about? You see, although the President is the only one who can authorize the use of nuclear weapons, at least ONE OTHER PERSON PRESENT - the VP, SecDef, NSA, and a couple others - has to concur. POTUS can want to nuke the (Fill In The Blank) all he wants, but he has to convince at least one other guy to go along with it. THEN he gets to convince at least 3-4 military officers to go along as well - and I think I can say with absolute confidence that unless there's an ongoing crisis of some kind, it ain't gonna be easy. | #12 I actually don't think Biden - with or without dementia - or any other single person should have the power to destroy humanity without intervention. A whole big committee to make that 'button' decision would ensure the button would never be pushed, and our enemies would know it, and could push their own at will. A decision reached by a group of 2-5 people might work - no more than five, and I lean towards 3. |

The entire idea of having a Nuclear Football is to be able to respond quickly. If the president is not mentally fit then GIT RID OF HIM - and any in line who are not. | #3 Oh, now Hot Air is doubting. But since they are snark and not reporters, or even curious bystanders: Would this mean Nukes approved by Committee, or Nukes available for use by multiple people? Politico goes on to state there isn't a set alternative, such as confirmation by the VP. I think the conclusion is correct, since we've never had a water balloon in the oval office in the nuke age. I'm not even sure they could walk Joey through the sequence at this point, and is actually a legit concern if/when he hits the angry aggressive stage of dementia, which he has been IMHO since Dog Faced Pony Soldier. |
