6 die in Zacatecas in Mexico

A total of six individuals were found dead in drug and gang related violence in Zacatecas state in Mexico, according to El Sol de Zacatecas Mexican news daily.

Five armed suspects were killed in a gunfight with Mexican authorities in Fresnillo municipality Thursday.

According to the report, a unit of the Mexican National Guard was on patrol on the Fresnillo-Valparaíso highway when they encountered several armed suspects traveling aboard trucks. The suspects fired on the unit, and the patrol element returned fire.

The firefight took place near the village of Santa Rosa.

Remaining cop found dead

The sole remaining police officer in the Zacatecas municipality of Monte Escobedo municipality was found dead Thursday, according to a news report in El Sol de Zacatecas.

Ricardo Acosta, 28, police chief of Monte Escobedo municipality, was found face down and in handcuffs on the road leading to Jalisco.

Acosta was reported missing last January 19th.

Bad Guys attack Highway safety officer's residence

Armed suspects attacked the home of an unidentified Highway Patrol officer early Thursday morning, according to a news account in El Sol de Zacatecas Mexican news daily.

The home attacked was located on Calle Alameda Oriente in Jerez municipality.

When several responding security elements including state police, local police and army units arrived in the vicinity of the attack, armed suspects attacked them with gunfire, then fled aboard a vehicle. A Mexican Army soldier was wounded in the exchange.

The vehicle used in the attack on the security units was later found abandoned on Calle Alameda Poniente.

Armed suspects attack National Guard patrol

A Mexican National Guard unit on patrol was fired on by armed suspects Wednesday night, according to a news report which appeared in the Mexican news daily El Sol de Zacatecas.

The patrol earlier received reports of several residences being set on fire in Panfilo Naterain municipality in the village of San Jose de las Borregas.

The attack took place on the road to Ojocaliente. No one was reported hurt in the encounter.
