Turkish warbirds hammer Kurd Kommies in Dahok
2021-02-17
SULAIMANI — Turkish warplanes bombed targets on Matin Mountain in Duhok governorate’s Amedi district on Tuesday afternoon (February 16).

NRT reporter Nihad Oramari said that they hit an area near Guharzi village at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time.

The damage caused by the airstrike was not immediately clear.

On Tuesday, Turkish defense minister Halusi Akar said that the country’s cross-border operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region and northern Iraq were being undertaken with great force and pace, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

On February 14, Akar announced the completion of Operation Claw-Eagle 2, which focused on the governorate’s Gara Mountain.

Turkey regularly carries out cross-border operations in northern Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, justifying its actions as necessary to combat the PKK, which has waged a decades-long insurgency for Kurdish rights in Turkey’s southeast.

At least twelve civilians were killed in Turkish airstrikes during Operation Claw-Eagle 1, which was launched in June.
