Gangrene, ulcers, rashes: More bizarre COVID-19 symptoms revealed
2021-02-13
[NYP] The list of mysterious symptoms related to the coronavirus keeps getting longer.

The latest unexpected side effect happened to an 86-year-old woman in Italy, whose fingers turned black with gangrene as COVID-19 caused severe clotting, cutting off the blood supply to her extremities.

Doctors were forced to amputate three of her digits after diagnosing the woman in April 2020, calling the case study a "severe manifestation" of the disease in a new report published in the European Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.

Physicians were already aware that the coronavirus may wreak havoc on the vascular system, though they aren’t yet sure why. Currently, many in the medical community believe that the side effect may be related to an increasingly common immune overreaction to COVID-19, called a "cytokine storm," which prompts the body to attack both sickened cells and healthy tissues.

The medical community continues to discover new, unexpected conditions of the disease — as the US approaches 27 million cases this week since the March 2020 outbreak, per data from the World Health Organization. While many experience ailments similar to those associated with influenza, such as fever, body aches, trouble breathing and nasal congestion, other common warning signs have included nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and a mysterious inability to taste and smell, according to the Centers or Disease Control and Prevention.

#7  I had the Pfizer shot. Since then my resting heartbeat has gone from a 5 year average of 66 to to a 52 last night. The ramp down started the day I received the first shot. Or, my new Fitbit is broken.

#6   the vast number of different bizarre, strange and exotic conditions which (by the patient's account) were preceded by a nondescript viral respiratory infection... Apparently things haven't changed that much, but the level of hand wringing and pearl clutching has.

Unlike Thineger Sproing6704, I was never tempted by med school, but that’s basically what happened to me in December, 2001. As a fit 40 year old I developed pleuropericarditis (pleurisy plus pericarditis), normally only seen, so I was told, in very unfit, fat, old men. No idea what caused it, probably a virus that found my chest hospitable, though I have no memory of being ill in the weeks before that happened. Compounding the situation, after a relapse a week after the hospital sent me home, my perfectly normal recovery turned into chronic fatigue syndrome for absolutely no apparent reason whatsoever.

They still don’t know what causes CFS, though the current hypothesis is that after an illness or stress, occasionally the immune system forgets for some reason to reset back to the healthy setting. And thus far, of the many cures proposed or that are claimed to have worked for some people, not one works for many of those who have it.

But CFS looks an awful lot like Long (or is it slow?) Covid, so hopefully the research there will benefit the millions of American with CFS.

#2  Mr. Besoeker

I not only tip my hat to you, but I bow to the consistency of your courteous introductions of actual incidences of CoVID's gruesome effects on the humans of our planet.

Media in general, (name its delivery) has done disservices to us all by quashing, seemingly distasteful, tragic events which have be fallen us as humans, results of CoVID.

Fred, You and volunteer moderators have attempted to keep the platform, aka Rantburg, open to reasonable, civil discourses over this subject and others over these many months. Thank you.

You are NOT the "Grey Lady", and if you ever become her, I will seek out Zelda of the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland, to put the Pox of Poxes upon your House for Time Ever Lasting, before I leave.

Stay true to your publication's literary course, the wind is at your back, clear skies, and on fair weather, the good ship RANTBURG shall sail for ever.

Be mindful of Zelda as you sail.

#1  The official reports of the visit concluded that Soviets were running a covert and illegal BW programme.[28] Kelly also took part in reciprocal visits to the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Maryland, and visits to Porton Down by Russian and American inspectors.[29] Despite their findings, Kelly concluded that the tripartite inspection programme had failed. It was, he said, "too ambitious; its disarmament objective deflected by issues of reciprocity and access to sites outside the territories of the three parties".[30] He went on to add that "Russia's refusal to provide a complete account of its past and current BW activity and the inability of the American–British teams to gain access to Soviet/Russian military industrial facilities were significant contributory factors".[30] Link

Kelly was reported to have died from suicide in 2003.
