#5  /\ Very true, and not just applicable to conflicts in the ME. It would appear that the last conflict in which we achieved victory was WWII.

#4  It really is so simple. We were never willing to do what needed to be done to win. The Taliban didn't really win - they didn't have to as long as they didn't lose.

#3  A couple of GBUs on key areas in Balochistan, Multan and carpet bombing along the durand line would have won it. Thanks to the American deepState's undying love for Pakistain, this did not happen.

What happens when the interests of some fool 'strategists' in Washington trump those of the taxpayer, the soldier.

"These demands are not open to negotiation or discussion. The Taliban must act, and act immediately. They will hand over the terrorists, or they will share in their fate."

George W. Bush, Statement To Joint Session Of Congress September 20th 2001

The Taliban ignored the demands. Their mere existence implies they won.

Of course GWB's statement was never to be taken seriously. Powell retracted it less than a moth later in Pakistan.
