Yes, It Is Wrong To Compare President Trump To Adolf Hitler
2021-01-28
[Philadelphia Inquirer] Many people find it offensive to use the Holocaust as a yardstick for the political excesses of the last four years that culminated in the storming of Washington on Jan. 6. They believe that to mention Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler in the same breath, as Spike Lee did on Sunday in an awards speech, disrespects the millions of innocent victims and survivors, diminishing the enormity of the Nazis’ crimes.

As a son of Holocaust survivors and a grandson of four murdered Jews, I might be expected to agree. But I do not.

I think Trump’s ability to incite followers under the banner of white nationalism has enabled us to better understand Hitler’s sway over the Germans, connecting us to the real people in the old black-and-white photo images and newsreels that show the masses with arms outstretched toward their fuhrer.

Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany’s economic woes; the gas chambers and ovens followed. Trump blamed immigrants for making us unsafe; child migrants in cages, Muslims banned from entering the U.S., and a new wall on our Mexican border followed. Trump figuratively drove busloads of angry Americans to Washington this month and egged them on after they got there.

#10  Why do they get away with repeating that lie about "children in cages"? OBAMA put those kids in detention behind chain link - thats where the "cages" photos came from.

I have had enough of this gaslighting bullshit. If the balloon goes up, I declare no bag limit on newspaper writers of this type.

#7  So he does not agree, yet uses Trump to understand Hitler. Just what is he saying??? Trump never burned a book, or threw masses of American citizens in jail. He did not put kids in cages, so where is the truth police on this one?? And he certainly is not promoting reeducation cams and jails for non liberals. But then it wont be long and the Joker will be dancing in DC...

#6  If they want to see a Hitler-lite... just wait a month or so...

Remember Democrats always show what they intend to do by accusing their opponents of doing the same thing. It allows them to claim 'Well they are doing it too!" if called on it.

The author is so blinded that he doesn't see his own blaming everything on 'Trump' and 'Trump Supporters' as being much the same as Blaming everything on 'Joos...'

#5  At least the uniforms would not have changed every 18-36 months.

#4  If President Trump had been like Hitler a National Socialist Party Leader.

We would not have had a single Anti-USA Politician still in congress. The West coastal states, and several other Mid-west/Yankee states rioter would have been BRUTALLY Arrested and/or Shot day 1.

Because he was NOT what the finger pointers and Ranters actually were themselves, they were allowed to enjoy their Bill of Rights at the expense of others.

#3  Imo, until (approximately) the 60's, comparing someone [literally] to Hitler had some genuine and experiential traction. Owing to the collapse of our schools and the relegation of History to the nether reaches of revisionism, comparing someone to [literally] Hitler is such an abstraction that anyone can be fit to the profile.

Perhaps, but somebody paid to actually drove two busloads of agents provocateurs to D.C. protest.
