Syrian Army foils jihadist attack in southeastern Idlib |

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) confronted a group of jihadist rebels on Tuesday that attempted to attack their positions in the southeastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate. According to a field report from the Idlib Governorate, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ![]() (HTS) attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the Saraqib countryside, as they attempted to infiltrate into the town of of Afs, which also has a presence of Russian military police. The report said the Syrian Arab Army was able to defeat the infiltration attempt by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, ultimately forcing them to withdraw to their previous lines after suffering heavy casualties at the hands of the SAA. This latest attack comes at a time when the towns of al-Fateera, Kansafra and Sufouhn in the Jabal al-Zawiya countryside of Idlib witness intense attacks by the jihadist rebels, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is one of the largest jihadist groups inside Syria; they are primarily based in the Idlib Governorate, but they also maintain a large presence in the Latakia, Hama and Latakia governorates of northwestern Syria. |
