...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...(HTS) attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the Saraqib countryside, as they attempted to infiltrate into the town of of Afs, which also has a presence of Russian military police.
The report said the Syrian Arab Army was able to defeat the infiltration attempt by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, ultimately forcing them to withdraw to their previous lines after suffering heavy casualties at the hands of the SAA.
This latest attack comes at a time when the towns of al-Fateera, Kansafra and Sufouhn in the Jabal al-Zawiya countryside of Idlib witness intense attacks by the jihadist rebels, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and
Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is one of the largest jihadist groups inside Syria; they are primarily based in the Idlib Governorate, but they also maintain a large presence in the Latakia, Hama and Latakia governorates of northwestern Syria.
