[Al Ahram] Egypt’s Illicit Gains Authority referred on Sunday the former deputy to the governor of Alexandria and Moslem Brüderbund member Hassan El-Brens to an Alexandria criminal court on charges of making illicit gains and abuse of power. In 2012 and 2013, El-Brens saw a sharp increase in wealth amounting to EGP 3.5 million, for which he could not cite a legitimate source, according to the Ministry of Justice’s Illicit Gains Authority. The Authority accused El-Brens of owning liquid and movable assets, stocks and corporate bonds, cash, and a number of apartments that he could not afford on his legitimate income. El-Brens was arrested for inciting violence in August 2013 after the ouster of late Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. In December 2013, the Egyptian government designated the Moslem Brüderbund a terrorist organization. In September 2018, an Alexandria criminal court sentenced El-Bren to five years in prison on charges related to illegal assembly, murder and incitement of riots. |
