2020-12-14
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Saturday, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched a surprise offensive in the Hadrut area of southern Karabakh, prompting an intense confrontation with the Armenian-led Artsakh Defense Army.

According to the Armenian Ministry of Defense, the Artsakh Defense Army confronted the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Hin Tagher and Khtasberd after the former tried to advance their positions in these areas.

the Azerbaijani military’s attack was reportedly unsuccessful on Saturday, as the Artsakh Defense Army was able to hold their ground in the Hin Tagher and Khtasberd areas, despite suffering three casualties.

Following the attack by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the Russian peacekeeping map was updated to show the areas now inside the Armenian enclave of Karabakh, which is a setback for Baku, as it gives the Artsakh Defense Army more ground inside the region.

The Azerbaijani media later contrasted the Armenian Ministry of Defense’s statement on Saturday, claiming that the Artsakh Defense Army was the aggressor, as the latter allegedly tried to advance their positions in the area.

Saturday’s festivities marked the first time since the Moscow Agreement on November 9th that the two parties to the conflict in Karabakh have been involved in a fierce firefight in this region.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Turkish special forces units of participating in an attack by the Azerbaijani forces, Saturday, on Armenian positions in southern Karabakh.

“Our sites near the villages of Khtsaberd and Hin Tagher were attacked by the Azerbaijani units. There is information indicating that factions of the Turkish special forces participated in the attack,” Pashinyan said during an emergency meeting to the National Security Council.

According to Pashinyan, the attack took place while the Russian peacekeepers had not yet deployed in the mentioned area. He also indicated that the clash left six wounded from the Armenian side.

For its part, Baku announced that the Azerbaijani State Security Service is engaged in a “anti-terror operation” in the Khojawand district (var. Hadrut) of the Karabakh province, against “Armenian armed formations” that are still operating in a forested area around the town of Hadrut.

On Saturday, Azerbaijan and Armenia accused one another of launching an attack in the Hadrut area, resulting in three wounded on the Armenian side.

Azerbaijan announces death of 4 soldiers during clashes with Armenian forces
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Sunday, Azerbaijan announced that 4 of its soldiers were killed and two others wounded in Karabakh, accusing the Armenian side of carrying out an unprovoked attack.

According to a joint statement of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense and State Security: “After the ceasefire was announced, the Armenian media announced, citing official circles in their country, that their armed forces were missing in the forest area. The Armenian side appealed to the leadership of the Russian peacekeepers to find them and evacuate them. ”

The statement said, “The Azerbaijani side provided all the conditions for the evacuation of the Armenian armed forces , and in difficult weather conditions, Russian peacekeepers arrived in this area, and with the help of loudspeakers, they appealed to the Armenian armed groups in the region to take the necessary measures to evacuate them, who were presented as ‘lost’ and ‘missing’, noting that the military personnel of the Russian peacekeepers acted with great responsibility and professionalism to maintain the ceasefire and evacuate the Armenian militants.

“It is clear that armed groups have not left the region, and are attacking Azerbaijani military and civilians,” the statement continued.

They added, “On November 26, 2020, 3 Azerbaijani soldiers were killed in an attack on the lands of Sur village in the Khojavind region, and two were wounded. On December 8, a soldier was killed near Hadrut village … Given the above, The Azerbaijani state security apparatus was forced to conduct an anti-terrorist operation in this region. ”

It is noteworthy to mention that Armenia announced on Saturday that the Azerbaijani army resumed its offensive near two villages in Karabakh, and in turn, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said that the ceasefire in the region is respected.
