[NYPost] Sen. Mitt Romney,
...who has four more years before he has to run for reelection... | President Trump’s main Republican foil in Congress, congratulated Joe Biden on his historic win of the White House on Saturday — calling him and Kamala Harris people of "good will and admirable character."
"Ann and I extend our congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris," the Mormon senator from Utah and one-time presidential candidate said of he and his wife in a tweet.
"We know both of them as people of good will and admirable character. We pray that God may bless them in the days and years ahead," he went on.
Romney was the only Republican lawmaker who voted to impeach Trump earlier this year and was outspoken in his criticism of the commander-in-chief, refusing to fall in line behind the president.
Trump excoriated Romney for the vote, calling him a "failed presidential candidate," and he was shunned by his own party when the American Conservative Union angrily uninvited him from CPAC.
The 73-year-old in recent days had been critical of Trump’s unfounded claims that the election was rigged and being stolen from him, calling them ’reckless.’
"He is wrong to say that the election was rigged, corrupt and stolen — doing so damages the cause of freedom here and around the world, weakens the institutions that lie at the foundation of the Republic, and recklessly inflames destructive and dangerous passions, he wrote in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Trump has vowed to fight Saturday’s election result, saying the fight was "far from over." |
