COVID-19 causes ‘chronic' cognitive deficits equivalent to brain aging 10 years
2020-10-28

#14  From the article:

“The cognitive function of the participants was not known pre-COVID, and the results also do not reflect long-term recovery — so any effects on cognition may be short-term,” Joanna Wardlaw, a professor of applied neuroimaging at Edinburgh University, told Reuters.

That sounds exactly like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which sometimes resolves itself spontaneously within the first year or three. But sometimes it does not, and the scientists are currently talking about some smallish percent of Covid patients experiencing a slow infection — call it chronic-like — versus the usual acute form.

I suspect they will discover that most infections act like this sometimes, and that influenza has been doing this all along without anyone paying any attention to those debilitated by it.

#5  Oh FFS, they have no previous data point to compare only that people are having a difficult time concentrating - also a symptom of sitting at home for 6 months watching fkn nurses with nothing else to do make tik tok videos and drink.

That would be like a pro athlete blowing their ACL in the film business, but nobody is like Ah, Tom Hanks, We'll Miss You! He's like, you know while I'm making my next movie I'm going to move to Greece.

Trump travels so much he makes Monarch Butterflies look like a bunch of mom's basement soy boys and he doesn't come across as dotty or confused.

Name me one system of the body which doesn't atrophy by not using it.

#4  UK - sure that isn't from being locked up and chronic drinking?

#3  Other experts not involved in the study warned that the results should be viewed with some caution — especially because the study did not record before-and-after cognitive test scores.

#1  Does it take 10 years for said deficits to appear?

Asking for a friend.
