[ToloNews] Abdul Hai Zazai, district governor of Zazai Maidan in eastern Khost, was killed in an ambush on Monday by button men in central Pashtun-infested Logar province, said the provincial governor's media office.

The incident occurred as Zazai was on his way to Kabul province, the statement said, adding that "Mr Zazai and one of his bodyguards were killed and two others were maimed."

Zazai was just 34 years old and was the youngest to serve in the post in the eastern part of Afghanistan.

Abdul Hai Zazai started serving as district governor when he was 29 years old.

Zazai was serving in Guzbuz, Bak, Musakhel, Nadir and Zazai Maidan district in the past several years.

Zazai, was a native of Zazi Maidan, had a bachelor’s degree in Sharia law. His father, who had served in the ranks of Afghan National Police, died in a suicide kaboom in Khost.

Zazai’s five elder brothers also followed the path of their father and joined Afghan police but he chose to be a civil servant.
