#4 The genesis of the Portland problem began in the mid-nineteen sixties. The eastern diaper-baby kids to dumb to get into Ivy schools or Cal=Berkeley began appearing in droves in Oregon. In the years that followed they led the anti-war activity that was as active at the U. of Oregon, Eugene, as any USA campus. Driven underground by Nixon, the Marxist infiltration of the U. of Oregon, Portland State, Lewis and Clarke, and Reed continued apace. Radicals found Portland the perfect place to settle. It was a city whose inhabitants were of limited intelligence, little academic achievement, and where one could livee on the cheap In sum, it was ripe for the pickings. Thus, it has been the center of radical activity for more than twenty years. |
