#2 We have a lack of backbone by the state department for nearly 2 decades, going back to when they denied entry to US Forces during OIF, with no real consequences for Erdogan. A swift kick in the ass back then would have allowed rapid entry and pacification of the region where ISIS grew. And on a more direct note, bloodying Erdogan's nose then might have stopped his power grab, and encouraged his military to give him the MB treatment like the Egyptians did theirs.
