Portland Denies Permit for Proud Boys Gathering, 'Cause COVID
2020-09-24
So, uh, Ted, what are you going to do if they show up anyway? Arrest and release them?
[OregonLive] The city of Portland has denied a permit to the far-right group Proud Boys, which has been planning a rally on Saturday in North Portland’s Delta Park, finding that the group’s estimated crowd of 10,000 people exceeds public safety measures in light of the current coronavirus pandemic.

The right-wing group, which has gained national attention for its heated rhetoric and marches that often devolve into violence,
Not so. They just become more intensely peaceful.
originally planned to hold the rally in Terry Schrunk Plaza. The change in venue was made, the group said in a statement last week, "in order to accommodate ... a ’battalion of patriots’ who are ready to exercise their constitutionally protected right to assemble."
Or, as the Portland police and federal LEO call them, reinforcements.
Ted says: "While espousing patriotism and a commitment to peaceful protest, some in these groups and many who associate with them embody and empower racism, intolerance and hate. Those are not Portland values, and they are not welcome. Hate has no home in Portland. Violence has no home in Portland. Anyone intending to intimidate, create fear, commit violence, or spread hate is not welcome here.''
Let's track the logic here: "Right-wing" people hate. Hate is not welcome in Portland. Therefore, right-wing people are not welcome in Portland. QED.
Tim Crail, Fritz’s chief of staff, said he did not know of any applications for permits received by the city stemming from the 100-plus consecutive nights of social justice protests that have occurred in the city.
Well, that's different, obviously, because throwing Molotov cocktails at police is not violence. It's just the way you say "Howdy, neighbor!" in Portland.
