#8  Blues, jazz, and gospel all come from the same African-American root. And rap, which made poetry cool for a new generation — all speaking to a love of sound, rhythm, and words that would make any culture proud. There is a depth of love and mutual support in adversity to admire in the healthy side of Black culture, just as there is an acceptance of pathological selfishness and self-indulgence in the unhealthy side.
