[GetZone] On April 26, 2019, a new bill in Indiana was a major reform of the previous firearm arm carry laws, Indiana HB 1284 became Public Law 107. Included in this reform is a free five-year permit for carrying handguns in Indiana, slated to go into effect on July 1st, 2020 while the other reforms went into effect immediately. They included:A voter registration form from law enforcement offices was required to be given whenever a person applied for a license to carry a handgun.
Those who justifiably defended themselves from harm or threat with force, in certain cases, were given immunity from a civil lawsuit.
The restriction on carrying/possessing guns on school property was removed for those attending worship services/religious ceremonies on school property as an employee or volunteer of a house of worship that is located on school property.
Duration of all handgun carry licenses was changed to five years from the previous four.
