Rhode Island may shorten its full name due to slavery connotations

[PUBLISH.TWITTER] In 1636, when "Rhode Island & Providence Plantations" was founded, the "plantations" referred to were farms. As far as I'm aware, slavery was never legal. Roger Williams was against slavery. That used to be in history books.
