Truck Drivers Say They Won't Deliver To Cities with Defunded Police Departments
2020-06-13
[CDLLife] As cities across the country are discussing defunding or disbanding their police departments, truck drivers are voicing concerns of safety. Seventy-seven percent of truck drivers say they will refuse to deliver freight to cities with defunded police departments.

Truck driving is historically ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. In 2018, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country.

Truck drivers have spent the last year on the front line of a global pandemic and protests. Now many are fearful of what might happen if police departs disband or are defunded.

Truck drives have been voicing their concerns on the CDLLife App. After reading about their concerns, CDLLife posted a poll on the app.

We asked drivers on the app, "Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments? Why or why not?"

To date, 77% of drivers say they will refuse loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.

Other cities are planning similar but less dramatic options. For example, New York and Los Angeles said they will reduce budget and deploy other resources such as social and youth programs.
It would become a very interesting situation with significantly reduced and significantly more expensive shipping from outside.

#14  "No deliveries in Sector H after midnight."
-- old Firesign Theater joke

In the olden days, a stagecoach had a driver and somebody riding shotgun. In the modern version, the truck drives itself and the driver operates the remote weapons stations.

#13  #11 Neither does the author (an American of Polish descent) but it's a lot of fun (and very un-PC in a best of male chauvinist pig style).

#12  Remember the Left threw a fit years ago when pizza places refused to deliver to bad (robbery/murder bad) neighborhoods.

#11   g(r)omgoru: Didn't know about that Crosstime series. I may have to hunt it down but admit to knowing nothing of Polish culture.

#10  6 This is truly the end of these hellholes. Basically fire rescue, ambulance service is gone now. No food or fuel deliveries. Then cut utilities. Then watch the cockroaches scatter.

The city of Seattle has actually been providing these services to them. RevLARPEers aren't the threat (although they are a problem).

The threat is the "respectable" "professional" suited/pantsuited establishment figures that arerunning cover for them.

Just like when the Weathermen went "underground" with the aid of that era's establishment.

#9  No problem. They can always get Amazon to deliver with drones.

#8  Slightly off-topic:

In 2018, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country.

Historically I thought loggers had it worse in the dangerous / deadly job category? I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

#5  Auto pilot perhaps. With increased regulation and harassment plus many retiring to just get out will only cause more severe distribution problems. The new drivers with CDL's hired show no signs to do anything physical. Heavy lifting is out. Beer, Soda, water, grocery items, you name it. In New York city you can't stop at traffic lights because teams will open back doors and throw product out as you drive along. Even new hires with a truck load of product disappear and when the truck is found it is empty. Many negatives in truck driving. Go independent most likely go broke.

#1  Truck hijacking is lucrative. Making it risk free will certainly mean more of it.
