#2 Not all RF transparent domes are RADAR. This could be a passive array. Interesting grid arrangement, poss ISAR? From the Wiki: Perhaps the most visually striking and scientifically compelling application of ISAR is in the deep space imaging of asteroids. I would guess the three small ones to the left are optical trackers for Kalman steering the big grid. The damned thing looks like it would simulate a dish several hundred feet in diameter. I'm assuming the apparent distortion in dome shape may correlate to different antenna shapes therefor frequencies. Pretty cool. |

#1 More properly claimed by either Viet Nam or the Philippines, it is Chinese by possession. Strategically of value, tactically it is a sitting duck. South Vietnamese fishing boats fleeing the Communist takeover and making their way to Palawan in the Philippines used this reef as a marker. |
