#10  ..its a separation of church and state thing, that the judiciary went fully tangential too long ago to pull back on.

#9  I'm not too hip on the tax-exempt status for the churches. I thought the 1st Amendment was meant for no establishment of a state church a la the Church of England. Anyway, that horse left the barn ages ago.

#8  Political scientists who studied Reagan's landslide in 1980 noticed an unusual, unprecedented shift in Evangelical Christian voters' behavior: prior to the 1980 election the vast majority were either apolitical and not inclined to turn out to vote, or else voted Democratic.

IIRC the best explanation for the massive increase in not only evangelical turnout but in evangelicals voting for the Republican was that these folks became political after Jimmy Carter's DOJ made moves to take away their churches' and broadcasters' tax-exempt status. This reaction was completely off the reader of Carter's people -- even though they were all from Georgia and should have seen it coming.

Trump and Brad Parscale surely are aware of how powerful the Christian vote is. If the meme is established that these folks' churches and congregations are under attack, and that the only politician who cares at all about protecting their right to worship as they choose is Trump, then OrangeMan's real % of the vote will be far higher than the polls predict.

#7  People in my church are scared of coronavirus and will likely not congregate until there is a vaccine. It is not what you call a conservative church.

#6  /\ Wow, that wasn't widely known (at least I didn't know that) about SC. For sure, way to go, Governor!

#5  Again, I'm grateful to live in South Carolina, where our governor never restricted churches because he said he did not have that power under the First Amendment. Go, Gov. McMaster!!!

#4  It also puts the knickers in a twist for the leftist church hierarchies of the Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans, etc.

Another 3-D Chess move.

#2  If Churches are not essential then the media isn't either as they're both covered by the First Amendment, right? /rhet question

#1  I personally feel faith is something that is in your heart, not something worn on your sleeve. That said, there are times I have been greatly relieved by the strength to be found in being part of a congregation. Lots of people have heard "Suffer the little children to come unto me," but they assiduously avoid thinking about the "it would be better if they had a millstone around their neck" part of that passage. Bad enough some old guy lost his wife because Mr. Cummo or tranny Dr. Levine put infectious people in the PCH she was living in, don't compound it by keeping him out of church as he tries to understand and cope with his gummint imposed loss.
