and the rule of law.

[Libya, 13 March 2020] ‐ Fathi Bashagha held talks in London on Thursday with senior British officials over reform in the Libyan security sector. In a speech given before the British Parliament, according to the GNA’s Ministry of Interior’s media office, the boycotting House of Representative member from Misrata, Bashagha, added that "the Government of National Accord (GNA) defends Libya in general, and the capital Tripoli in particular, for a civil, democratic state that guarantees human rights and the rule of law, for which the deaders sacrificed and are still sacrificing to defeat the aggression launched by Haftar and his militia on the capital, Tripoli."

He also lauded the role played by the United Kingdom in its support for the GNA in the war against the ISIS terrorist organization in Sirte in 2016 and the liberation of the city. He expressed the GNA’s willingness to maintain joint security cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

Bashagha stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations between Libya and the United Kingdom, especially in the areas of security and trade, in order to serve the interests of both countries. He expressed his hope for a greater role by the UK and the other allies of the GNA in order to help build, stabilise and ensure a free future for all Libyans.
