Chelsea Manning Attempted Suicide in Jail, Is Recovering, Lawyers Say
2020-03-12
Attention whores gotta attention whore. Let HIM rot
[Gizmodo] Imprisoned activist and former Army intelligence analyst Bradley Chelsea Manning
...formerly Bradley Manning before he decided to become a girl. He, or she or whatever it was, was a misfit Army intel analyst who decided to leak all the secrets he could lay hands on. Sentenced to 35 years in Leavenworth, he was sprung on an Obamapardon in 2017....
attempted suicide on Wednesday in the Alexandria, Virginia, jail where she's been held for a year following her refusal to testify before a federal grand jury investigating WikiLeaks.

Manning's legal team confirmed the incident in an statement to Gizmodo. She is currently in the hospital and is recovering, they said. Manning was scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday regarding a motion to terminate the sanctions she's faced for refusing to testify.

U.S. prosecutors are attempting to "coerce" Manning into testifying about her past association with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange by keeping her in jail. Assange, who has been detained in London for nearly a year, is currently battling extradition to the U.S. where he faces an 18-count indictment, including alleged violations of the Espionage Act, for publishing documents leaked by Manning in 2010.

Manning, who previously served seven years in a military prison for the leak, has stated her ongoing defiance stems from her contempt for the grand jury process itself. In a letter to Judge Anthony Trenga last year, Manning said she objected to the grand jury "as an effort to frighten journalists and publishers who serve a crucial public good."

"I have had these values since I was a child, and I've had years of confinement to reflect on them," she said. "For much of that time, I depended for survival on my values, my decisions, and my conscience. I will not abandon them now."

A judge ordered financial sanctions against Manning last summer in addition to her confinement. The fines she's accrued now total more than a quarter-million dollars.
Fry this fucker up
Sorry to hear it. The recovery I mean.

#14  So now a judge in Hawaii (big surprise there) ordered him to be released. Course, maybe he can finish the job properly this time.

#6  If he wanted to make sure he died all he had to do was say he had dirt on some powerful people.

#5  Beau, reminds me of an old joke from many years ago, when AIDS was just getting started: the person telling the joke pretends to stomp on something. When asked what they are doing, they say "giving CPR in San Francisco."

#4  Normal resuscitation measures probably don't work too well these days. Mouth to Mouth, for example, probably doesn't work as well with a surgical mask on. I'm not a doctor and I never played one on TV, just saying. I don't know exactly what the guards did ...

#3   "I depended for survival on my values, my decisions, and my conscience. "

Seems a rather sparse tool kit in this particular case.
