| #7 From thr article: No one knows why lip plates were first used. One theory goes that it was meant to discourage slavers from taking the women. In other words, a quiet defense by one native tribe against Muslim slave hunters. Given the current situation, the girls might want to hold off on giving up the custom. |

| #2 I used to think this a rather strange custom. But western chic is cutting off the genitals, injecting plastic into the chest cavity, taking enough hormones the ASPCA would throw a fit about if put into animals, and insist this is a fine thing to do to prepubescent children. |
