Chinese media reported that Dr Liu Zhiming of Wuchang Hospital died today
But a Hubei health official said the hospital director 'is still being resuscitated'
The same situation happened to Dr Li Wenliang, a whistle-blower of the virus
Web users accused authorities of covering up Dr Li's death to avoid criticism
Last Friday, a 59-year-old nurse from Wuchang Hospital also died of the disease
COVID-19 has claimed at least 1,775 lives and infected more than 71,440 globally

#11  @Mike

Yeah - I keep telling my friends/family that the outbreak was successful as you don't hear about the Hong Kong protesters anymore.

#10  It seems to me that if lung damage is more likely to result in the deep lung pneumonia that’s the actual killer in the approximately 25% of patients who end up with it, it would be more common in older men, who are more likely to have engaged in decades of physical labour while breathing heavily polluted air, and also to have been heavy cigarette smokers.

Fauci (the interview at the link) didn't say kids are resistant - he said severity of the disease depends on age.

So for me, since I've a 14 years old son, that's the most important news.

Mike, 3dc

I too wondered why a government would engineer a biological weapon against their own population:
angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) form the virus binds to is 5 times as frequent in east Asian populations (e.g. Chinese) the current estimates are* EastAsians, Japanese, and Han Chinese are the most likely people to become severely sick by the coronavirus with a chance of more than 90% when exposed. Europeans only rank in the 50%, Africans in the 60% range

But then I've noticed It's very clear the median age is 56 or 59.. Come-on: "A totalitarian government seeking to get rid of old - 'economically nonproductive people'" is a cliche in SF.

*Hasty results are not very reliable.

#6  #1 Another thing that we don't know is why, with a respiratory-borne illness, are there virtually no children getting infected. I mean, there are no cases of kids less than 15 years old. Does that mean for some strange reason they're not getting infected, or the illness is so mild in children that we're not noticing it? It's very clear the median age is 56 or 59.

Grom,

I've been thinking for a while now that this thing was specifically engineered to be used on Hong Kong. I mean, as satisfying as it would be for the CCP to go in there guns blazing, they can't - the world wouldn't likely tolerate another Tien An Men Square. But if the place is down sick and they go in with medical supplies to take care of people (with the odd arrest here and there), they'd get nothing but praise.

That mimicked, with typical fakery,
The taste of the West!
But its name? Not the best,
Cuz they called it, "Saliva: The Bakery."
