![]() The raid came after security forces received information that a group of gunnies were using the hideout in the Obeidat district to launch violent attacks targeting police and army personnel, the ministry said. The Lions of Islam exchanged fire with security forces, leading to the death of 11 terrorists. Others fled to an abandoned house in the Hous district and were followed by security forces, resulting in the death of six others. The Lions of Islam were found in possession of machine guns, three improvised bombs and two suicide belts. Earlier this week, the military said it had killed ten gunnies as it thwarted a terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai. Egypt is fighting an Islamist militancy based in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula that has gained pace since 2013. Hundreds of security-forces personnel have been killed in attacks claimed by bad boys, while the military has killed hundreds of Lions of Islam as part of an extensive campaign to crush the militancy in the border region.
