Small showing for Bloomberg rally with Judge Judy despite campaign's big spending
2020-01-14
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg
...former Republican mayor of New York. He tried to take the credit for Rudy Giuliani's actions in the wake of the 9-11 attacks. He was known as Nanny Bloomberg for his war on 32-ounce Slurpees. Nanny is a candidate for the Dem presidential nomination in 2020. He was born on Valentine's day, 1942, which makes him 77.81680 years old, which is pretty ripe...
claims he is ready to spend more than $1 billion in an effort to oust President Trump, but money may not be bringing supporters to his campaign.

Just 45 people showed up to Bloomberg's latest rally with TV star Judge Judy Sheindlin in Texas on Saturday, according to the New York Post.

"Unlike everyone else in this race, I think what’s important is beating Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
," Bloomberg told the sparse crowd of fewer than 50 people in San Antonio.

Bloomberg, 77, has eschewed tradition by entering the race late, forgoing attempts to make the debate stage, spending big out of his personal account, and focusing on the later states in an attempt to gain the 2020 Democratic nomination.

He has bought a $10 million TV spot that will air at this year's Super Bowl, and his campaign's digital ad buys are set to outpace Trump 4 to 1.

During his 13-minute stump speech, Bloomberg highlighted efforts to increase teacher pay in New York and his plan to cut carbon emissions. He then attacked Trump, saying he would spend less time tweeting if he were president.

#18  VodkaPundit liveblogged the debate here. It didn’t seem very interesting.

#17  Ads used to matter a great deal. But so many voters made up their minds following events in 2016, 2018, and 2019, that ads matter much less now.

Also, the common culture is much smaller than it used to be. The left and the right tend to watch different television shows, see different films, avoid each other on Facebook and Twitter... so ads seen by one side mostly won’t be seen by the other, and will have less impact when they're encountered.

#16  Btw I'm watching the Iowa debate. Truly a waste of time. The CNN moderators are even worse than the candidates.

#15  If ads didn't matter nobody would waste money on them.
A billion spent the right way will have an impact.

#14  Ads don't matter. Ads are a waste of $$$.
Turnout is everything.

#13  They won't vote for Bloomberg but Bloomberg can fire a lot of attacks on Trump. It's a personal thing, too, I think.

#12  A-As hate Bloomberg and are not excited by any of the lefty candidates.

#11  Money doesn't matter anymore EC. The media market is so completely over saturated with noise that ad spending makes no difference. Hillary vastly outspent Trump and still lost.

This election will be determined mainly on African-American turnout & preference.

If A-As stay home, OR if they do turn out in decent numbers but "only" vote 80% Democratic, then Trump wins OH WI and MI, i.e. he wins easily.

#10  Bloomberg will not get the nomination, but if he supports the winner financially to prevent a Trump reelection, this will matter. He can independently attack Trump with costly ads.

Biden's war chest is quite weak. If Bloomberg supports him (and he certainly prefers Biden to Warren or Sanders), this could be a game changer.

#9   During his 13-minute stump speech

Long enough to eat a burger with fries, I s’pose, but not really excite the listener. “Vote for me — I’m everything you like about teh billionaire OrangeMan, but without any of the icky bits.”

#8  Those 45 people:

"You mean this isn't where to sign onto the Judge Judy show?"

$10,000?
$100,000?

#6  All he has to do is to repeat this a 1000 times and he'll have himself a trump rally!

#5  None of the Dem candidates are drawing much interest or a crowd. Their policies suck.

#4  I am encouraged by the sheer idiocy and arrogance of Bloomberg’s staff. Waxahachie, really? The wife and I stopped into a Mexican grill there for breakfast on our way home from the high school football playoffs the Sunday before Christmas, and we watched the church crowd come in. None of those people, Hispanic or Anglo, would ever vote for the little troll.
