#13  Here is an English translation of the announcement of the Putin/Macron phone call from the Kremlin website. Add salt as needed.

tl;dr: France initiated the call. P & M expressed concern that waxing Soliemani would aggravate the situation. Most of the conversation was about Syria, Libya and the Ukraine.

As for #11, Frank wins!

#10  Macron has stated that Putin called him up to 'express concern' about the death of Soleimani. I don't expect Putin to do that however, least of all call Macron over it.

#9  Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the move “was an adventurist step that will increase tensions throughout the region.”

That would be Sergei Lavrov, an old Soviet Cold War crocodile. He is correct that this will increase tensions in the region, but as EC says, this is pretty much boiler plate. Somehow, I expect that Putin himself is totally fine with drone-zapping one's enemies.

#7  "Adventurist" is a Soviet Cold War term. Actually a rather mild condemnation.

#2  Envy. I'm sure he has his own list. Besides, in these days of low oil prices, its best to comfort an old client. Well, at least till the appropriate time comes.
