Utah sees record cold of -43.6 ºF – ‘Perhaps the lowest October temperature ever recorded' in continental U.S.
2019-11-01
[Climate Depot] Meteorologist Paul Dorian: "Perhaps the most amazing temperature recorded in this unusual cold spell for the western US took place earlier today in the remote observing station of Peter Sinks, Utah...the unofficial overnight low temperature there of -43.6 ºF is pretty amazing for this time of year and perhaps the lowest temperature ever recorded in the Lower 48 during the month of October. Nearby Salt Lake City, Utah provided some supporting evidence of the extreme cold as it set a low temperature record of 14 ºF for the date and records there go all the way back to 1874.

#9  I'm pretty certain this untimely cold snap has something to do with Mittens Romney.

#8  Look at all of our mad society's equivalents of earlier generations' foolishness - the contemporary versions of phrenology, bloodletting, the theory of physiological "humours," or treating schizophrenics with lobotomies:

We are living through a period of stupidity, ignorance and mass hysteria unlike any seen in centuries..

#7  The micro climate at the temperature recording device at Peter Sinks lends itself to this sort of thing.

The site is at a low point in a high elevation (about 8000') valley. The hills around the site had fresh snow and the night was exceptionally dry with almost no wind. Perfect for cooling via radiation augmented by cold air drainage.

The radiosonde balloon released near Salt L City had the temperature about -5F at 8000' about that time.

back in Feb 1985, the temp at this station dropped to -69F on a similar night

#5  A few weeks ago, I read (here, of course) how the solar cycle indicated 2020-2050 might be the coldest in 400 years. All part of climate change.

#4  and not just Salt Lake. 14F here in Boise the last couple of mornings also. Old timers here say that they see bears foraging more than usual. Local weather guys predicting an early winter.

AlGore must be in town.

#3  ...actually, within the statistical margin of error. That's what the pull for the 'warmest year on record' crap.

#2  No, this is EXACTLY what climate change extremists predicted! /sarcasm
Or, they'll say that events like this are just weather but a summer where the heat wave is one degree hotter than normal is PROOF of global warming.
