Possible terror attack with automatic guns in Halle (Germany)
2019-10-09
[BBC] The shootings took place in the Paulus area. Witnesses had reported a gunman wearing military camouflage and carrying several weapons.

The Bild newspaper said the attack took place near a synagogue but this has not been officially confirmed.

One witness said one attacker had thrown a Molotov cocktail or grenade over a cemetery wall.

#28  The Wall Street Journal has his full name:

A senior security official identified the suspect as Stephan Balliet, 27, a German citizen from the State of Saxony-Anhalt, where Halle is located, and said he wasn’t previously known to authorities.

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said prosecutors had enough elements to assume a far-right motivation behind the attack, even though it was too early to make a final determination.

#26  35-mins of head-mounted camera footage of the shooting was posted on video streaming site, showing first-person footage of his ammo and the shooting similar to that of NZ attack. Shooter says in English prior to shooting: The “root of all problems are the Jews.”

#25  The woman shot dead was just a passerby who probably got in the way. The male victim was shot in the Döner Restaurant he attacked.

#24  Why'd he shoot two (presumably) fellow Germans in the street?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2019-10-09 13:18

#23  He hates Joos just as much as foreigners ("Kanaken"). This might explain why he attacked a Döner Restaurant when he couldn't get into the synagogue.

#22  The killer has been identified as 27yo German Stephan B. (of course can't name him). He put out a video of his rampage and is in custody.

Currently, "Lone Wolf", you know.

#20  Doesn't Germany have strict gun laws? Sorry for the sarcasm but it seems you need more than laws to prevent this kind of attack, especially when you have porous borders through which all kinds of contraband can pass.

#19  Could be the same guy the Police let go after trying to bring a knife to a synagogue.

Maybe the German "police" will let this guy go as well?

#18  It seems to me that there were no human guards outside, just a security camera and a fortified entrance.
Posted by: European Conservative   2019-10-09 10:39

#17  You know if the guards had shot the attackers, the police would have disarmed the guards, leaving them open to the next attack. That's why I suspect the outside guards didn't engage.

#15  Oh, the office of the Federal Attorney General just communicated that facts point to a "rechtsextremistischer Anschlag" (right-wing extremist attack)

#13  The attack on the synagogue has been caught on its surveillance camera. So this is a fact now.

Currently I'm leaning "native joo haters"

#12  "Where were their outside guards?"

Wondering, too. Munich synagogue is well guarded, and a day like today, extremely well.

And yes, it's sad that you can't visit this beauty without reserving a place in a tour 2 weeks in advance.

#11  The synagogue's security measures withstood, otherwise it would probably have been a bloodbath.

They aren’t paying jizya directly, but this is the modern version of a Jew tax. Where were their outside guards?

Deutsche Welle is behind on reporting the latest developments, but adds:

Shots were also reported in the neighboring town of Landsberg following the shooting in Halle, but police did not immediately provide further details or say whether the two shootings were related.

Officials said that police protection near synagogues was being strengthened in Halle, Leipzig and Dresden for the time being. In Leipzig, major commemorations are planned for this evening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the rallies that eventually led to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

It remains to be seen if the miscreants are neo-Nazi types or Muslim colonists. That they were in military-style uniforms suggests native Joo haters, but no doubt it will be revealed.

#9  The two victims are passers by, not members of the Jewish Community

#8  The perpetrators tampered with the door, but could not penetrate. They opened fire with automatic weapons on the door and window. The synagogue's security measures withstood, otherwise it would probably have been a bloodbath.

#7  Max Privorozki, Chairman of the Jewish Community in Halle, confirms the incident. "There are currently 70 to 80 people in the synagogue".

#4  Thanks for the regional updates, EC.

And I agree... this "No motive known" bullshit is really pissing me off.

#3  Speaking to NTV, a police spokesman said the motive of the suspect or suspects was not clear.

'We don't have any indication about the motive of this act.'

This SERIOUSLY starts to annoy me.

#1  Scrap "possible"

At least two people have been killed after gunmen opened fire outside a synagogue. One woman died after two attackers, believed to be wearing a military-style uniforms, opened fire with a submachine gun in the city of Halle, eastern Germany.

A grenade was also thrown into the Jewish cemetery before the attackers fled, Bild reported.

Several others were wounded and rushed to hospital.

Police have since arrested one suspect, and told people to 'stay alert' while the manhunt continues.
