Navy CO Was Fired Over 'Repeated, Vigorous and Obvious False Statements:' Investigation
2019-10-08
Diversity is our strength.
[Mil.com] Investigators probing several allegations of wrongdoing by a Navy officer say they were met with a "disturbing lack of candor," leading them to doubt the validity of the commander's testimony and causing his admiral to question his professionalism.

Cmdr. Jesus "Manny" Cordero, who was relieved of command as the head of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Sicily last fall, refused to take responsibility for even minor infractions when investigators began looking into several complaints against him, according to a command investigation and endorsement letter, obtained by Military.com through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Vice Adm. Timothy "T.J." White, who relieved Cordero of his duties in September 2018, said the commander made "repeated, vigorous and obvious false statements" during an investigation into his behavior. Those actions severely compromised Cordero's integrity and judgment as a leader," White wrote in a Sept. 27, 2018, relief letter.

White then warned Cordero against contacting any member of his former command or taking "any action in retaliation against any member of NCTS Sicily, or any other member as a result of the relief."

#14  Other than sending in pilots from off shore, when was the last major 'naval engagement' of any significance to 'stress' the combat effectiveness? Lack of Darwinian real world experience allows a lot of bureaucrats, technocrats and careerists to float to the top.

(USS Pueblo and Liberty don't count as major)

#12  There seem to be scores of like reports on U.S. Navy screw-ups over the last few years. Is it me? Or can it be that the USN from CONOps down is composed in the main of f-ups. Who can explain it? Does it begin at Annapolis?

#11  You can correct me if I'm wrong g(r)om, but the Israelis don't have a massive overseas commitment of personnel to allow the old 'let us wait him out till his tour is up' avoidance of such problems to set into the command attitude?

Maybe on a big base, but in small unit ...

#4  the head of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Sicily

I've known budget trimming assholes like him.
Painting rocks on the airfield and raking the parade ground when the command center roof leaks. Restricting use of diesel to the motor pool when the only power you have is a Korean war vintage 50kw generator. Reducing mess hall hours to day shift and yesterday's bag lunches when you run a 24x7 operation. Cutting the base weekend bus schedule to reduce contract driver's hours. Closing the guard post and gate access to officer housing because there's too much traffic. Prioritizing access to the base laundry so enlisted wash their clothes at midnight. Closing the base exchange but giving pilots after hour passes as 'merit' recognition. Expanding the Oclub to include a dance floor when the Enlisted socialize in a empty warehouse with the doors chained shut. Motherfuckers.
